The Tigers kicked off their regular season in style.
They beat the White Sox, 6 to 3, yesterday in Chicago.
Justin Verlander had a very good outing.
He got the opening day win, after striking out 10, while giving up just 2 runs and 2 walks, over six-and-a-third innings.
Detroit got home runs from Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos and Jacoby Jones.
Jones’ home run was the first of his major league career and the first for a rookie in a Tigers opening game since Kirk Gibson did it in 1980.
Kinsler was 2 for 3 and reached base four times.
Jordan Zimmerman will start for the Tigers today and James Shields takes the mound for Chicago.
Game time is 2:10.
