Matt Davidson had his first career home run and first triple as a member of the White Sox and that helped Chicago defeat the Detroit Tigers 11 to 2 yesterday in Chicago.
Geovany Soto added his first two home runs as a White Sock.
James Shields was the starting pitcher for the Sox.
He threw 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, including Tyler Collins solo home run in the second, and striking out five.
Matt Boyd was the Tigers starting pitcher.
He didn’t pitch all that well and neither did reliever Anibal Sanchez.
Both gave up five runs and each gave up three-run home runs.
The Tigers play the Boston Red Sox in their home opener in Detroit today.
Michael Fulmer will start for the Tigers and the Red Sox will send out Steve Wright.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:08.
