Miguel Cabrera’s three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning powered the Tigers to a 5 to 3 win over the Kansas City Royals last night at Comerica Park.
J.D. Martinez also homered and went 2 for 3 for the Tigers.
Justin Verlander started and was the winning pitcher.
Verlander went 7 innings and threw 111 pitches, giving up 3 runs, all in the first inning, on 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1.
Justin Wilson got the save.
The series continues tonight.
Daniel Norris will start for the Tigers and Ian Kennedy will take the mound for the Royals.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10.
