The Detroit Tigers lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 3 to 2 last night at Comerica Park in the opening of a brief three-game home stand.
Jordan Zimmermann was the starting pitcher for the Tigers and he turned in a stellar performance.
Zimmermann threw 7 innings, giving up no runs on 2 hits, striking out 5 and walking 1.
Shane Greene gave up 3 runs in relief in the top of the ninth inning.
The Tigers staged a rally in the bottom of the 9th.
Victor Martinez hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the 9th to drive in 2 runs, but Jose Alvarado shut the Tigers down after that.
The series continues tonight.
The Tigers will start Matt Boyd and the Rays will send Chris Archer to the mound.
Game time is 7:10.
