Cards Beat Giants – go up 2 games to 1

Matt Carpenter clubbed a two-run home run as the St. Louis Cardinals downed the San Francisco Giants, 3-1, in Game Three of the NLCS last night.

Carpenter came on after Carlos Beltran left after the first inning with a strained left knee.

Shane Robinson also scored a run to help the Cards take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Kyle Lohse (lowsh) pitched five-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball to get the win.

Jason Motte earned a two-inning save.

Pablo Sandoval knocked in the lone run for the Giants, who left 11 men on base.

Matt Cain allowed all three runs in six-and-two-thirds innings to take the loss.

St. Louis will host Game Four Tonight night.
