The Tigers swept the Yankees in the American League Championship Series and had to wait for their opponent as the Giants came back from a 3-games-to-1 deficit to beat the St. Louis Cardinals to capture the National League pennant on Monday night.
San Francisco won the 2010 World Series, while Detroit last won the Fall Classic in 1984.
