Rory McIlroy birdied the final five holes on Sunday to rally past Justin Rose for the title at the European Tour’s season-ending event in Dubai.
Rose, starting five groups ahead of McIlroy and third-round co-leader Luke Donald, fired a 10-under 62 on Sunday to finish at 21-under par and put pressure on McIlroy.
The world’s top-ranked player needed a big finish to win and did so with his five consecutive birdies to complete a
6-under 66 for a four-day total of 23-under par.
Donald had at least a piece of the lead after each of the first three rounds, but couldn’t keep pace on Sunday and closed with a 71 to end alongside Charl Schwartzel in third place at 18-under par.
