Nearly 15,000 came together to run the inaugural Washington, D.C. edition of the Nike Women Half Marathon. Nearly ten years after the first NWHM in San Francisco, runners — joined by the likes of Olympian Shalane Flanagan, legendary runner Joan Benoit Samuelson and singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding — took to the streets of the nation’s capital with views of the Potomac River, U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. This empowering, unifying moment for runners everywhere also benefitted The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
