The Detroit Tigers won their fifth-straight game as they beat the Minnesota Twins in the middle game of a three game series 6-to-1 last night at Comerica Park.
Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder each hit two run home runs, Alex Avila added a solo shot and Victor Martinez went three-for-four at the plate. The Tigers knocked 13 hits.
Justin Verlander improved his record to 3-2. He allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight over seven innings.
The Tigers will go for the three-game series sweep this afternoon at Comerica Park. First pitch is set for 1:08 p.m.
Anibal Sanchez (3-1, 1.34 ERA) will start for the Tigers, and the Twins will counter with Scott Diamond (1-2, 4.32 ERA).
In other games….it was the San Diego Padres 13, and the Chicago Cubs 7…and the Milwaukee Brewers 12 beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12 to 8.
