Posted on May 9, 2013 in Professional Sports News.

Bryce Harper homered and drove in two to back seven solid innings from Jordan Zimmermann, as the Washington Nationals topped the Detroit Tigers, 3-1 last night.

The start of the game was delayed 57 minutes due to rain.

Zimmermann struck out seven while scattering seven hits and one run as he improved his record to 6-and-1.

Miguel Cabrera drove in the only run for Detroit, who had their four-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the second time in 11 games.

Anibal Sanchez fanned eight while allowing three runs, two earned, in six innings as he fell to 3-and-3.

The two teams will play their make-up game from Tuesday’s rain-out this afternoon.        Game time is 4:05 p.m.

Doug Fister (4-0, 2.48 ERA) will take the mound for Detroit, up against Dan Haren (3-3, 5.01 ERA) of the Nats.

In other games it was the St. Louis Cardinals 5, Chicago Cubs 4 and the Texas Rangers beat the  Milwaukee Brewers 4 to 1.
