Henrik Zetterberg and Justin Abdelkader each scored in the first period as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in Game Seven of their Western Conference quarterfinals series last night in California.
The Red Wings will now face the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks in the semifinals.
Valtteri Filppula got the game-winner in the second period. Jimmy Howard made 31 saves in the win.
Just two more games remain in the first round of the NHL playoffs.
After yesterday’s wins by the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs, each will play in a decisive Game Seven tonight.
The Rangers defended home ice by beating the Washington Capitals 1-0 to set up Game Seven in DC.
The Maple Leafs also won at home by edging the Boston Bruins 2-1.
The winners of tonight’s Game Sevens will play one another in the next round.
The other Eastern Conference match-up will feature the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins facing the Ottawa Senators.
