Neil Walker’s solo homer in the top of the 11th inning sent the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
Walker ended up 3-for-5 in the game, the only player with more than one hit.
Jeanmar Gomez allowed three hits over seven innings in the start while Mark Melancon picked up the win in relief.
Former Tiger Jason Grilli struck out the side in the bottom of the 11th for his 21st save as Pittsburgh won its seventh in nine games.
Rick Porcello struck out a career-high 11 batters while allowing three hits over eight innings for Detroit.
Jose Ortega took the loss for the Tigers, who had won six out of seven.
The Tigers hit the road to take on Pirates in Pittsburgh for a two-game set. First pitch at PNC Park is 7:05 p.m.
Anibal Sanchez (5-4, 2.38 ERA) will take the mound for Detroit, up against A.J. Burnett (3-5, 2.57) of the Pirates.
Elsewhere it was the Minnesota Twins 6 and the Milwaukee Brewers 5 (14innings).
And the Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox was postponed.
