The Detroit Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in the opener of a four game series at Comerica Park last night.
Rick Porcello gave up one run on five hits while striking out ten in six innings for his 13th win of the year and Joaquin Benoit notched his 21st save of the season.
Torii Hunter and Omar Infante both went two-for-four at the plate with an RBI and Victor Martinez also drove in a run.
The win drops Detroit’s magic number to clinch the AL Central title to seven after Cleveland’s loss to Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals were kind enough to beat the Cleveland Indians 7 to 1.
Tonight, Anibal Sanchez (14-7, 2.50 ERA) takes the mound for the Tigers, while the Mariners counter with Brandon Maurer (4-8, 7.18 ERA). First pitch is 7:08 p.m.
