The Detroit Tigers clinched their third straight AL Central Title with a 1-0 win over the Twins last night in Minnesota.
Max Scherzer earned his Major League leading 21st win of the season.
He gave up just two hits, walked six and struck out ten in seven innings.
Joaquin Benoit notched his 24th save.
Austin Jackson had a double and triple and Torii Hunter drove in the only run of the game with a single in the first inning.
Jim Leyland earned his 700th win as manager of the Tigers.
Leyland became the third manager in Detroit history to reach at least 700 victories, joining Hall-of-Famers Sparky Anderson (1,331) and Hugh Jennings (1,131).
The Tigers are off today, but they begin their last series of the regular season with a three game set against the Marlins in Miami tomorrow night.
Jhonny Peralta will rejoin the Tigers for their series against the Marlins, following his 50 game suspension.
Peralta has not played in a game since August 4th, a day before he was suspended for his involvement with the Biogenisis firm in Florida.
He will be Detroit’s left fielder when they take the field this weekend.
Team president and general manager Dave Dombrowski has said rookie Jose Iglesias will be the Tigers shortstop.
To make room on the roster, Detroit will place infielder Danny Worth on the 60-day disabled list.
Worth dislocated his shoulder earlier this month.
