NHL – The Detroit Red Wings Beat The Buffalo Sabres In Season Opener

The Detroit Red Wings opened the 2013-14 season with a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres last night at Joe Louis Arena.

Mikael Samuelsson and Pavel Datsyuk scored 36 seconds apart in the first period to put Detroit ahead for good.

Jimmy Howard stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced in goal.

Former Spartan goalie Ryan Miller gave up both goals on 34 shots for the setback.

Zemgus Girgensons scored for Buffalo.

This was the first of four games in the regular season series.

 

The Wings are off today, but will host the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night.
