Posted on June 26, 2014 in Professional Sports News.

The United States takes on Germany this afternoon as the U.S. attempts to advance to the Round of 16 in their final game in Group G.

The United States and Germany are tied with four points, while Ghana and Portugal each have one point.

The U.S. needs a win or a draw today to move onto the next round.

Xherdan Shaqiri had a hat trick and Switzerland advanced to the knockout round at the World Cup on yesterday with a 3-0 win over Honduras in Group E, while France secured the top spot in that group with a 0-0 draw against Ecuador.

Elsewhere, Lionel Messi scored two goals, but it was Marcos Rojo’s second-half strike that gave Argentina a 3-2 victory over Nigeria, giving the Argentines three wins in Group F.

Nigeria is also advancing out of the group ahead of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iran.

Bosnia-Herzegovina topped Iran 3-1 in their final match.
