Posted on July 2, 2014 in Professional Sports News.

Rick Porcello had another strong outing, pitching his second straight complete game shutout, as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Oakland Athletics 3-0 last night at Comerica Park.

Porcello notched his 11th win of the year, scattering four hits over nine innings and extending his consecutive scoreless innings streak to 25 and one third innings.

He is the first Detroit pitcher to throw back-to-back shutouts since Jack Morris in 1986.

J.D. Martinez had a two-run homerun in the sixth and Torii Hunter had an RBI.

In the series finale this afternoon, Detroit sends Justin Verlander to the mound, while Jesse Chavez will start for Oakland.
