MLB – The Detroit Tigers Avoid A Sweep And Beat Cleveland At Comerica Park

Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer as the Detroit Tigers grabbed a 5-1 win over the Cleveland Indians and avoided a four-game sweep at Comerica Park.

Nick Castellanos went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Drew Smyly improved to 6-and-8 with seven innings of one-run ball.

Detroit ended a four-game losing streak.

Josh Tomlin was tagged for four runs in four-and-a-third innings, falling to 5-and-7 for Cleveland.

Yan Gomes (yahn gohms) was 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Indians, who had won six of seven.

The Tigers travel to Arizona today to open up a three-game interleague series with the Diamondbacks.

First pitch is 9:40 p.m.

Justin Verlander will take the mound for Detroit, up against Vidal Nuno of the Diamondbacks.
