Miguel Montero singled to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Tigers, 5-4 last night at Chase Field.
Detroit had taken the lead on Torii Hunter’s two-run single in the top of the inning, but the bullpen could not close out the Diamondbacks.
Phil Coke and Al Alburquerque combined to walk the bases loaded before Montero’s hit against Ian Krol.
Aaron Hill homered and drove in three for Arizona.
Miguel Cabrera had two hits, with a walk, and an RBI to lead Detroit, and Torii Hunter had two RBIs.
Coke fell to 1-and-2 with the loss.
The two teams play the rubber-match of their three-game interleague series this afternoon in Arizona.
Game time is 3:40 p.m.
Anibal Sanchez will take the mound for the Tigers, up against Trevor Cahill of the D-Backs.
