The Detroit Tigers shut out the Chicago Cubs 6-0 last night in the first of a two game series at Comerica Park Tuesday night.
Anibal Sanchez picked up his fourth win of the season, scattering six hits while striking out seven in seven and two third innings.
Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos each had two RBIs, and Miguel Cabrera and J.D. Martinez both knocked in a run.
Outfielder Rajai Davis helped keep the Cubs off the scoreboard with a spectacular leaping catch at the left field wall to rob David Ross of a two-run homer in the second inning.
Tonight, Detroit sends Shane Greene to the hill and Chicago counters with Jake Arrieta. First pitch is 7:08 p.m.
Tigers starter Justin Verlander will make his season debut at Comerica Park Saturday against the Cleveland Indians.
Verlander had been sidelined since Spring Training with a strained right triceps.
He finished his second rehab start with Triple-A Toledo last Saturday, going five and two-third innings with nine strikeouts and was put back into Detroit’s rotation after a bullpen session yesterday.
