The University of Virginia is celebrating their first-ever national baseball championship.
Freshman Pavin Smith hit a two-run homerun and drove in three to lead the Cavaliers to a 4-2 win over Vanderbilt in Game Three of the College World Series Finals last night in Omaha.
Brandon Waddell threw seven innings of two-run ball for UVA, who were the runner-ups to Vandy in last year’s finals.
First-overall draft pick Dansby Swanson and Zander Wiel drove in a run each for the Commodores, who were trying to become the first repeat winner since South Carolina in 2010 and 2011.
