James McCann smacked a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 5-4 Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.
Victor Martinez hit a three-run triple to cap a four-run eighth inning for the Tigers, who took two of three in the rain-shortened series.
Joakim Soria picked up the win.
Avisail Garcia drilled a two-run homer and Melky Cabrera went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run for Chicago, who led 4-0 through six innings.
Zach Putnam suffered the loss.
Justin Verlander will make his return to the mound tomorrow night when the Tigers begin a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park.
Verlander, who missed his last start with back stiffness, is 0-and-1 with a 6.17 ERA in two starts overall.
The Pirates will counter with ace right-hander Gerrit Cole, who is 11-and-3 with a 2.16 ERA.
