NHL – The Red Wings Alumni And The Current Red Wings Will Play In Outdoor Games

The Red Wings and Avalanche alumni rekindle their rivalry from the mid-1990’s as they face off in an outdoor game at Coors Field in Denver today.

The exhibition is part of the NHL’s Stadium Series.

Detroit and Colorado met five times in the playoffs in a seven year period, and each time the winner advanced to the Stanley Cup championships.

Steve Yzerman, Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios and Manny Legace are all scheduled to take the ice today for the Red Wings, while Claude Lemieux, Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy are on the Avalanche roster.
The Red Wings and Avalanche play outdoors in the NHL Stadium Series at Coors Field tomorrow.

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is expected to return for Detroit, after missing the last six games with a lower-body injury.

He is one of seven Wings players, including Dylan Larkin, Riley Sheahan and Petr Mrazek, who have not played in an NHL outdoor game.
