Last year Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets successfully defeated the Marquette Redmen to win the Division One State Championship, and on Saturday night the two teams met in Plymouth for an eagerly awaited rematch.

The first period was scoreless, but not for lack of trying; both teams busily attempted to chip away at the other, each getting some shots in but neither able to get on the board. The stalemate was finally broken midway through the second, with Mike Peterson dropping one in for the Redmen. At the end of the period the Eaglets came within inches of evening it up, but the ref called 'no goal' due to a foot in the net and the Redmen skated into the third period with a razor-thin lead.

In a last-ditch effort the Eaglets pulled their goalie with less than 2 minutes to go. The gambit was successful and Orchard Lake extended the game past regulation. After a record eight (yes, eight) overtimes it was ruled that the Marquette Redmen and the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets will be co-state champions. Congratulations to both teams on a hard-fought game to finish out a hard-fought season.
