Westwood – It was another battle on the Gridiron in the Mid-Peninsula Conference Friday night as the Westwood Patriots fell to the Iron Mountain Mountaineers 40-20 in the third home game of the season.

The Patriots trailed by as many as 34 going into the fourth quarter, but were led by juniors Nicolas “Varsity” Benda, Tyler Prophet and Zach French offensively at the mid point of the final quarter. French scampered into the end zone to put the Patriots on the board. He would score again on a quarterback keeper to put 14 points on the board.

Nicholas Benda and Tyler Prophet helped move the ball in the final minute of the ballgame, but the Mountaineer first team was too much for our Westwood Patriots.  Westwood falls to 3-2 on the year after tonight’s action. Iron Mountain will move to 4-1 and in a tie with multiple teams for second place in the Mid-Peninsula Conference.  The Mountaineers will take on the Manistique Emeralds next weekend. You can catch all the action on Friday by listening to 92.7 WPIQ

The Patriots will head on the road next weekend, in a non-conference match up below the bridge against Inland Lakes. The Bulldogs are 2-3 on the season. Make sure you tune in on Saturday at 3 PM ET on 103.3 The Country Extreme for all the action.
