After losing by a 42 point margin nearly 2 weeks earlier, The Marquette Redette’s faced a tough Westwood Patriot squad in Westwood Tuesday night and it was a much different game than the runaway last time they met. Both teams had early turnovers and early shots from the charity stripe to keep both teams neck and neck throughout the 1st quarter with Westwood up by one 9-8
Marquette and Westwood stayed tight through the 1st half of the 2nd with the Patriots leading by one 12-11. But Marquette had a quick 4 point spurt to jump out 16-12. Westwood tried to take advantage of 2nd period foul trouble by the Redettes, but both team pressed the ball with quick rebounds and good ball movement on both sides, with Westwood edging back to within one, down 15-14 at the half.
Marquette & Westwood came out of the locker room & Marquette used the fast break to jump out to a quick lead early in the 3rd, but the Patriots fought back to 23-17 with about 2 minutes to go, but Marquette used quick hands to steal the ball from Westwood twice to stretch their lead. But Westwood pulled the same trick with under a minute to go to continue battling, ending the 3rd down by 7, 27-20
Westwood came off the bench to start the final quarter with a 3 pointer and a quick steal and score to get within 4, but then Marquette started their run-&-gun assault holding on to their lead, stretching it to 37-26 late in the 4th. The Patriots continued to fight but the Redette’s held on for the win, 45-31.
