The NHL is expected to start canceling regular season games this week due to the 16-day lockout that already has wiped out training camps and the exhibition schedule.
The regular season is scheduled to begin on Oct. 11. The Red Wings’ season opener is Oct. 12 at home against Nashville.
The league is expected to cancel games in two-week segments, like it did in 2004-05, when the season was scrapped.
Once games are canceled, the league probably will draw up a new schedule if a new collective bargaining agreement is reached in time to save a portion of the season.
