Cabrera garners awards

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has been honored by his peers, picking up the the Player of the Year and the American League Outstanding Player during the MLB Players Choice Awards.

He was voted Player of the Year over Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout and Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen, and bested Trout and Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre for AL Outstanding Player.

Cabrera won the first Triple Crown since 1967 this year, leading the AL with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBI and is expected to be in the running for the AL MVP award, which will be announced next week.
