The NHL and the Players’ Association have agreed to use federal mediators in the ongoing labor negotiations.
Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Deputy Director Scot L. Beckenbaugh, Director of Mediation Services John Sweeney and Commissioner Guy Serota will serve as the mediators.
Mediation by a third party was also used during the 2004-05 lockout.
The current lockout has already forced the cancellation of 422 regular season games, the Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend.
The league has been locked out since the previous labor deal expired September 15th.
