PGA to make rule change?

Posted on November 28, 2012 in Sports News - Yooper & Michigan.

A controversial part of golf could soon be sent far into the rough.

The United States Golf Association and the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of Scotland are expected to announce a ban on anchored putters today.

The putting style has come under scrutiny by some of the game’s top players such as Tiger Woods.

Belly and broomstick putters will be outlawed, but the ban isn’t expected to take effect until January 1st, 2016.

Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Ernie Els have won three of golf’s past five major tournaments and became the first three to do so using belly putters.

Guan Tianglang of China will become the youngest competitor at The Masters this April at age 14 and won his spot in the event by using a belly putter.
