Detroit Tigers third baseman and AL MVP Miguel Cabrera will play for his native Venezuela in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Cabrera says baseball is a passion in Venezuela and he is looking forward to playing for his country.

The WBC will be held March 2nd through the 19th, during 2013 spring training and rosters for the 16-team tournament will be released next month.

 

Yesterday was the first day of Winter Meetings for Major League Baseball.

Front office officials from all 30 teams are in Nashville for the start of baseball’s offseason.

The Tigers are expected to be active, while the Red Sox appear to have landed the first big name of the week.

Boston has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with free agent catcher/infielder Mike Napoli.
