Emeralds Varsity (0) VS. Norway Knights (3), Manistique Volleyball – Thursday, 10/23/2008

Posted on October 23, 2008 in Manistique Emeralds.

Manistique, Mi. – The Norway Knights came into town with the allure of goose egging the Emeralds for the season having thrashed Manistique on both the JV and Varsity levels at home, but the Emeralds had different plans. The Manistique Junior Varsity put a positive cap on what has been largely a very disappointing season with a 2 set to none victory over the struggling Knight JVs. Again, Millie Weber was the backbone of the Emerald squad from passing to serving to front row play. McKenzie Mickelson also came out strong in her new streamlined role as middle hitter and server extraordinaire. The Emerald team won the match 25-21 and 25-22 getting even with the Knights on the season.

The Manistique Emerald Varsity was not as successful in a dominating performance by the Norway Knights. The Brookes, Julian and Bosch dominated in the middle while Zygiel and Debakker put the ball down. The absence of Brooke Casanova was a great advantage for the Emeralds which they were not able to capitalize on. Manistique took it on the chops: 25-14, 25-18, 25-23…. OUCH. Manistique’s last game was closer due to the hard work of Melanie Neddow and Kristi Hyland. Hyland a senior playing her last home match was once again the Digital Designs WPIQ player of the game.

The Emerald girls play November 5th in the first round of the Districts against an 11-21 and 5 Harbor Springs team. Game time 5:00 pm.
