Posted on December 11, 2013 in Professional Sports News.

The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Panthers 3-2 in a shootout last night in Florida.

Todd Bertuzzi scored a power play goal in the first, then Pavel Datsyuk scored in the second in his first game back after suffering a concussion late last month.

Tomas Tatar got the lone goal for the Wings in the shootout, while the Panthers put two pucks in net to secure the win.

Goalie Jimmy Howard turned made 25 saves in regulation and overtime.

Detroit makes a stop in Tampa to face off against the Lightning Thursday night.

The Captain – Steve Yzerman – will be back on the ice in Detroit, as Yzerman has been added to the roster for the Red Wings versus Maple Leafs Alumni Showdown on New Year’s Eve at Comerica Park.

Yzerman wore the captain’s “C” from 1986 until his retirement in 2006 and during that time led Detroit to three Stanley Cup Championships.

The Alumni Showdown games are part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival events leading up to The NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day at the Big House in Ann Arbor.
