Pittsburgh held on to beat Bowling Green 30-27 in what could be the final Little Caesars Pizza Bowl last night at Ford Field.

Pitt running back James Conner was named MVP of the game, rushing for 229 yards, breaking a team bowl record set by Tony Dorsett in 1977.

Yesterday’s ACC-MAC contest could be the last Pizza Bowl game, after the Detroit Lions and the Big Ten Conference announced a new bowl game will be played at Ford Field beginning in December of 2014.

Joey DeMartino rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown to lead Utah State to a 21-14 win over 24th-ranked Northern Illinois in the Poinsettia Bowl on Thursday.

Darell Garretson completed 17-of-29 passes for 121 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions and Brandon Swindall finished with four catches for 28 yards and a score for the Aggies (9-5), who finished the season with wins in six of their final seven games.

Heisman finalist Jordan Lynch struggled in his final collegiate game, completing 20-of-35 passes for 216 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Michigan head coach Brady Hoke announced yesterday that freshman quarterback Shane Morris will get the start against Kansas State in tomorrow’s Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

Quarterback Devin Gardner, who had started all 12 games for U of M this season, has been sidelined with a foot injury.

Both teams head into their first-ever meeting with 7-and-5 records.
