The Detroit Lions have named Jim Caldwell as their new head coach.
Caldwell was the head coach of Indianapolis Colts from 2009 through 2011, leading the team to the Super Bowl in 2009 and the AFC Wild Card Game in 2010.
He was fired following a 2-14 record in 2011, when quarterback Peyton Manning was sidelined for the entire season.
Calwell won a Super Bowl as an assistant coach with Indianapolis in 2006 and then again last season, when he was offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens.
Caldwell replaces Jim Schwartz will be formally introduced at a press conference this afternoon.
