Yoenis Cespedes homered twice and drove in six as the Detroit Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox, 9-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series yesterday afternoon.
Cespedes hit a grand slam in the first and added a two-run shot in the second for Detroit, who improved to 10-and-2.
Shane Greene fired seven innings of one-run ball to improve his recored to 3-and-0.
Jose Abreu tripled in Chicago’s only run in the sixth.
Jose Quintana was rocked for all nine runs and 10 hits in five-plus innings to fall to 1-and-1.
The Tigers open up a four-game series against the New York Yankees tonight.
Game time is 7:00 p.m.
Alfredo Simon will take the mound for the Tigers, up against C.C. Sabathia of the Yankees.
