David Price scattered five hits over seven innings of work as the Detroit Tigers topped the Oakland A’s, 1-0 at O.com Coliseum.
Price walked one and struck out three in improving to 4-and-1 with the win.
The only run came in the first inning when Anthony Gose singled, stole second, moved up on a throwing error, and scored on a Rajai Davis sacrifice fly.
Joakim Soria got the final out of the eighth inning and finished up the shutout for his 14th save.
A’s starter Jesse Chavez allowed the unearned run on five hits in eight innings of pitching.
The two teams play the rubber match of their series this afternoon.
