The Detroit Tigers were outslugged by the Toronto Blue Jays in a 10-5 loss yesterday afternoon.
Justin Verlander tossed four sharp innings of one-run ball, but a six-run outburst from the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth inning forced his early exit.
The loss prevented the Tigers from pulling off just their second series sweep this season and snapped a two-game win streak.
J.D Martinez and Anthony Gose went deep for Detroit, who’s record dropped to 41-and-40.
Jose Bautista and Justin Smoak homered for Jays in the fifth.
The Tigers begin a seven-game road trip tonight that takes them to the All-Star break.
They play the first of three games against the Mariners in Seattle tonight.
First pitch is 10:10 p.m.
Alfredo Simon (SY-min) puts his 7-and-5 mark on the line against Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma, who is 0-and-1 with a 6.61 ERA.
The Tigers also play four at Minnesota on this trip.
