The Detroit Tigers scored five times in the sixth inning and followed it up with a four-run seventh to beat the Seattle Mariners, 12-5, last night at Safeco Field.
Victor Martinez had four hits, including one of Detroit’s four home runs.
Nick Castellanos, J.D. Martinez, and Yoenis Cespedes also homered in the win.
Alfredo Simon allowed five runs, but pitched into the sixth inning to go to 8-and-5 with the win.
Robinson Cano had two hits and Logan Morrison homered for the Mariners.
Seattle reliever Mayckol Guaipe [[ Michael GWHY-pay ]] fell to 0-and-1 with the loss.
The two teams play game-two of their series tonight in the Emerald City.
First pitch is 10:10 p.m.
Kyle Ryan will take the mound for Detroit, up against Taijuan Walker of Seattle.
