Justin Verlander outdueled Johnny Cueto and Ian Kinsler homered and drove in
three as the Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak by knocking off division leading Kansas City 6-5.
Verlander tossed his fifth straight quality start limited the Royals to seven hits and four runs but just two earned, over 6 2-3 innings.
Johnny Cueto, who the Royals acquired in a July 26 trade with Cincinnati, allowed four runs on nine hits over six innings to take the loss.
Randy Wolf starts Wednesday night against Yordano Ventura.
In roster moves, the Tigers recalled left-hander Kyle Ryan and catcher Bryan Holaday from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
