Tigers starter Randy Wolf had command issues and Royals starter Yordano Ventura was stellar as the Tigers fell 12-1 in game two of the series at Kaufmann Stadium.
Ventura struck out 11 over seven innings while Wolf gave up eight runs in 3 2/3 innings in taking the loss.
The Royals scored in each of the first five innings including five in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera was tossed by third base umpire Gary Cederstrom after striking out in the third inning.
The Tigers and Royals play the rubber game of the series Thursday night as Matt Boyd starts for Detroit against Edison Volquez for KC.
