The Jim Harbaugh era starts with a loss as the Utah Utes spoiled the coach’s debut with a 24-17 win over Michigan in Salt Lake City.
Amarah Darboh and Jake Butt each made eight catches and scored Tds.
Joe Bolden made 13 tackles, and Michigan outgained Utah, 355-348, but a trio of turnovers cost U-M in the 2015 opener.
Utah’s Justin Thomas returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown with just under eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The pick-six pushed the lead to 24-10 and sealed the win.
Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock was 27-of-43 for 279 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss.
Next up for Michigan is Oregon State at the Big House a week from Saturday.
