Denzel Valentine posted 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists as third-ranked Michigan State knocked off Purdue, 66-62, to win the Big Ten tournament title in Indianapolis Sunday afternoon.
The 29-and-5 Spartans captured their third tournament crown in five years and fifth overall.
MSU earned a number-two seed in the NCAA Tournament and opens up against Middle Tennessee State on Friday.
Vince Edwards scored 19 points to pace the Boilermakers, who grabbed a five-seed in the tournament and will face Arkansas-Little Rock in the first round on Thursday.
Michigan will still have to earn their way into the Round of 64.
After losing to Purdue in Saturday’s Big Ten semifinals, the Wolverines will take on Tulsa in the First Four Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio.
The winner faces Notre Dame Friday in the East Regional in Brooklyn, New York.
