J.D. Martinez homered for a third time in Grapefruit League play Monday as the Tigers beat the Mets, 9-2, at Joker Marchant Stadium.
The home run, a two-run shot over the fence in right-center field with no outs in the fifth inning, gave the Tigers a three-run cushion and spurred six straight runs.
Mike Aviles homered to left field in the seventh inning. It was his first of the spring and Detroit’s league-leading 27th.
Tigers starter Daniel Norris struck out four and gave up a run.
The Tigers take on the Braves today in Lakeland.
