Justin Upton’s 2nd inning home run was the only run that was scored last night..as the Tigers shut out the Minnesota Twins, 1 – 0 in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.
The victory goes to starter Matt Boyd.
He struck out 7 – while giving up just 3 hits – over six innings.
That win – coupled with Cleveland’s 7 to 3 loss last night to the Kansas City Royals – means the Tigers are now just five-and-a-half games behind the Indians in the chase for first place in the central division.
According to reports, officials of Major League Baseball and the players’ union are talking about reducing the regular season from 162 to 154 games…..which could begin as early as next year.
Reducing the season is just one of the things being discussed, as both sides are working out the details of a new collective bargaining agreement.
