9th inning home runs from Max Kepler and Donte Rosario powered the Minnesota Twins to a 4 to 1 win over the Tigers in yesterday’s finale of a midweek series at Comerica Park.
It was a very good outing in the loss for Justin Verlander.
He allowed just one run – while striking out 9 – over eight innings.
That loss – combined with Cleveland’s 11 to 4 victory last night over Kansas City – now leaves the Tigers seven-and-a-half games behind Indians in the chase for first place in the central division.
The Tigers are also four-and-a-half games behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the battle for the final wild card spot in the American League.
The Tigers leave Comerica Park for a 7 game road trip – starting with a weekend series with the White Sox tonight.
Mike Pelfrey goes up against James Shields of the White Sox.
Start time is 8:10 eastern time.
