Grand Rapids – Game one was against the juggernaut that is south Portage, the emeralds fought hard but eventually fell 12-3. Manager McNeil stated that “The score just can’t show what is happening down here”.  One point that backs up that is the fact that the Cardinals had what most called the defensive play of the tournament.  The play envolved a line drive to Erin Holmberg at short stop with runners on 1st and 3rd.  Holmberg cought the ball quickly threw it to home to stop the run Bontekoe was than able to get in to a pickle with neddow between third and home.  Bontekoe relayed the ball to neddow who in turn ran down the runner tagged her out and with a diving tag got the runner out trying to steal third.

McNeil said “I have always told the girls getting a double was a miracle in girls softball but a triple is unheard of”.

In Game two the Lady Cardinals rallied from seven runs down to beat Tayle, 11-10.  Manistique got behind quickly in the 2nd inning when the gave the taylor team 7 runs to make the score 1-8.  Manistique wasn’t going away quietly and was able to pick up two runs in the second, four in the fourth and two in the seventh. Taylor continued to fight and took the lead back.  In the seventh inning Erin Holmberg tied the game at 10-10 and then Millie Webers fly in to center field brought home the go-ahead run.  In the bottom of the 7th inning Taylor managed to get in scoring position with the tying run at third base. But mel Neddow was able to close out the inning with a pop-up.

McNeil stated “Mel pitched a great game for us.
